SOMA Enigma
Artikelnummer 1097843SOMA Enigma is an innovative experimental synthesizer controlled entirely by metallic objects and their movement. Its highly sensitive sensing field, MIDI and CV synchronization and completely unconventional performance approach make it a unique instrument for sound design, ambient music and experimental sonic exploration.
SOMA Enigma experimental synthesizer
SOMA Enigma is a unique experimental synthesizer controlled entirely by the position and movement of metallic objects. This innovative instrument transforms coins, screws, tools, gears and other metal objects into evolving sonic textures through SOMA’s highly sensitive sensing field technology.
ENIGMA is not a traditional synthesizer—it is an exploration of sound, movement and interaction. Even the slightest movement of a metallic object can dramatically change the resulting sound, opening completely new possibilities for experimental performance and sound design.
Experimental synthesizer controlled by metallic objects
ENIGMA uses a custom-developed sensing field capable of detecting conductive metallic objects placed directly on the surface or hovering up to 20 mm above it. The size, shape, material and placement of each object all influence the generated sound.
This creates an organic and highly expressive method of sound generation unlike any conventional synthesizer interface.
Highly sensitive and evolving sonic behavior
The ENIGMA interface reacts with extreme precision to even microscopic object movement. Sliding, rotating or repositioning objects continuously transforms the sonic landscape.
The system contains no randomness in its interface behavior—identical object placement and gestures always produce identical sonic results, allowing repeatable and controllable experimentation.
Eight touch sensors for different operating states
Eight touch sensors provide access to different operating states and perceptual modes. These modes dramatically alter how the sensing field responds to metallic objects and gestures.
In some modes, ENIGMA can also trace and memorize movement over time, enabling evolving structures and performative interaction.
MIDI and CV clock synchronization
ENIGMA supports MIDI Clock, MIDI Start, Stop and Continue commands, along with MIDI Note and Pitch Bend control. A Eurorack-compatible CV clock input is also included.
When both MIDI clock and CV clock are present simultaneously, CV clock automatically takes priority.
Designed for experimentation and sound discovery
SOMA Enigma is ideal for experimental music, ambient, drone, electroacoustic improvisation, sound design and live performance.
Its unconventional interaction system makes it an inspiring instrument for musicians, producers and sound artists searching for entirely new methods of sonic expression.
